The Independence Choir

June McCulley, Director/Pianist

Each Sunday we try to have music that is appropriate for the season.   In November we observe Veteran’s Day with patriotic music and a salute to our veterans.  At Thanksgiving we will, even more than usual, be singing praises for our blessings.  With the beginning of Advent on November 30, we start the Christmas season with choir specials and congregational Christmas hymns.   Our Choir Christmas Program will be Sunday, December 14, at 6:00 p.m. with fellowship to follow.  Everyone looks forward to this event.   Come Join Us.  We end the season on the second Sunday in January.  For the after holiday slow down, we perk things up with some peppy gospel music.  Not all our music is traditionally Presbyterian.  We are an eclectic group and really enjoy all the old traditional hymns and gospel music, especially in the Gaither style.

Our choir is made up of volunteers and meets for practice regularly on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Special practice may be called when preparing for extraordinary events and services such as revivals, Easter and Christmas. Each Sunday the choir sings a “call to worship “and a “anthem.” It also leads the congregation in hymns and congregational responses. It is the goal of the choir to present music for the purpose of glorifying God. Each first Sunday of the month the choir presents a song service at the Sardis Nursing Home. The residents choose their favorite hymns and are encouraged to participate in the service.
